The Hurt Locker
To be considered for the Australian SAS a candidate must first pass ‘Selection’, which is one of the most gruelling military courses in the world. Selection is designed to push candidates to the limits of human endurance, breaking them down both physically and mentally, and revealing their true essence.
The Hurt Locker has been inspired by the SAS Selection Course and is specially designed to reflect the conditions faced by SAS candidates.
Whilst under the watchful eye of former Special Forces operators, you can expect to be cold, wet, hungry and both physically and mentally exhausted as you push yourself to complete the course.
The Hurt Locker is an ultra-tough course designed to test your mettle. You will be confronted with a series of intense mental and physical challenges, and you will need to summon the resilience to go beyond your perceived limits. To succeed on the course is to demonstrate physical fortitude, courage and an indomitable will. By finishing the programme you will have proven that you have the grit to achieve the extraordinary.

Fast-paced adrenaline-packed course including numerous adventure activities and a host of nasty surprises in an inhospitable alpine environment.

Duration: Approximately 48 hours (across three days and two nights), depending on rate of progress. If you don't meet critical timings you will be removed from the programme.
Location: The course commences in the township of Porepunkah, Victoria, Australia (approximately 3 hours 30 minutes from Melbourne), and operates in the surrounding alpine environment.

One of the most demanding attributes of the SAS Selection Course is its prolonged duration, with over three weeks of extremely difficult physical and mental challenges. Although the time limitations of The Hurt Locker prevent a full replication of this characteristic, activities are run at maximum intensity in order to ensure that participants gain authentic insight into the rigours of the SAS Selection Course.
The SAS Selection Course has been carefully designed to allow the directing staff to gain an unambiguous appraisal of a participant’s mental and physical characteristics whilst under extreme levels of stress. The Hurt Locker emulates this method of examination and employs the same minimum standards expected.
IMPORTANT: All participants must be capable of meeting the following fitness requirements prior to commencement of the course:
60 Push-ups
10 Heaves
100 Sit-ups
Tread water, 2 minutes fully clothed then swim 400m in maximum time 18:00
Run 2.4 km carrying 7kg in maximum time 11:30
15 km Endurance March carrying 28kg in maximum time 2:20:00
WARNING: This programme is designed to emulate conditions experienced on the Australian SAS Selection Course and will push participants to the limits of their mental and physical endurance. It is not expected that the majority of participants will succeed in completing the course. Participants are responsible for developing an appropriately high level of physical fitness prior to attendance. Participants are required to be entirely self-motivated throughout the course and will not be nurtured or encouraged by staff.
